Nail Gun Safety Tips

Comments Off

As the old Schoolhouse Rock videos used to state:  Knowledge is Power!  That phrase, so applicable in most aspects of life, certainly appllies to nail gun safety.  And one great thing about the internet is that you can find more safety tips on more products than ever before.  Below are some sites that have great information on safety. Please take a few minutes to look over the information so that you protect you and your loved ones during your next project.

1.    The Expert Village Series.  These guys have done a series of videos on How to Use A Nail Gun.   The series not only provides how-to information on how to properly use nailers, but also includes videos on nail gun safety.

2.    The Texas Department of Insurance Nail Gun Safety Fact Sheet

3.    Mike Strawbridge’s Nail Gun Safety Tips.  Frankly, I have no idea who Mike Strawbridge is, but his tips do a good job of describing his experience with problems and some ways to avoid those problems.

4.    National Association of Home Builders — Hammer Home Nail Gun Safety.  Good tips despite the cheesy title to the article.

5.    The Sacramento Bee Safety Tips For Using Nail Guns.  These guys have done a fantastic job of covering stories on nail gun safety.

And even more encouraging than the links above is a promise, announced last week, from Cal-OSHA to start creating e-tools to publish safety information about nail guns.  The e-tools will have videos, tip sheets, and audio slide shows, and they will also allow professionals  to share their experiences with what works and why.  This has the potential to be a great source of information for professionals and weekend warriors alike.

Again, if you’re like me, the natural tendency is to forego the instruction manual, to fire up the tool, and to jump right into the project.  But nail guns are just too dangerous to have that attitude.  Please take a few minutes to look at some of the resources above to make sure you don’t become one of the nail gun statistics.
