Pradaxa MDL 2385 Transferred to Judge Herndon in the Southern District of Illinois

Comments Off

A few days ago, we posted about the pending consolidation of Pradaxa lawsuits across the country. Just today, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation issued its Transfer Order, and the Pradaxa MDL will be litigated in the Southern District of Illinois.

Ryan L. Thompson of Watts Guerra Craft argued on behalf of the Movant for Consolidation, and argued for consolidation in the Southern District of Illinois. Thompson believes this venue will provide the most expeditious legal proceedings for this largely elderly pool of Pradaxa side effects victims. Thompson and Mikal C. Watts, the firm’s founder have spoken across the country this year on Pradaxa, and both have implored other firms to push the cases along quickly due to the age and health status of the majority of the client population.

The Panel only just heard oral argument regarding the Pradaxa consolidation on July 26, 2012, a mere nine business days ago. We believe the Panel’s prompt decision on consolidation will further assist the firms litigating these cases in their efforts to provide the closest day in court for their clients, and closure to families who lost loved ones.

Judge David R. Herndon

United States District Court Judge David Herndon sits in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, East Saint Louis Division. Judge Herndon was appointed United States District Judge for the Southern District of Illinois November 16, 1998 and designated Chief Judge October 1, 2007.

Judge Herndon has handled one of the largest and most expeditious MDLs in history. He is the sitting judge presiding over the litigation surrounding Yaz and Yasmin side effects. The case is In re Yasmin and Yaz (Drospirenone) Marketing, Sales Practices and Product Liability Litigation, 09-md-02100, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois (East St. Louis).

Plaintiffs in the Pradaxa litigation look forward to the litigation getting underway. The case is known as In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2385.

Pradaxa Side Effects Lawsuits

Plaintiffs across the country are filing Pradaxa lawsuits after they or a deceased loved one experienced life-threatening internal bleeding. Cases range from gastrointestinal bleeds requiring transfusion or other medical intervention, to serious bleeding events that led to an untimely death. Time limitations apply to all cases, so victims of Pradaxa bleeding should contact an experienced pharmaceutical defect lawyer as soon as possible to preserve their legal rights.
